  • A little extra Face to Face

Kelly Jackson and Dawn Farrier, copyright WebCents magazineIn the July issue of WebCents we had two shopowners face off: Dawn Farrier of The Creation Station and Kelly Jackson of I Have a Notion. We couldn’t fit it all in, but didn’t want you to miss out on any of it. Here is the rest of the story…

    What’s your cooking philosophy?
Kelly: “Just say no!” The only thing domestic about me is that I live in a house.

Dawn: My husband Patrick does ALL the cooking, my philosophy…”life is good!”

    Who most inspires your career?
Kelly: There certainly is a list of folks who continually inspire me. At the very top of my list is my dear friend and award winning quilt artist Mary Jane Ehlich. She keeps me inspired, challenged and interested all at the same time. After Mary Jane, I would have to say I am very inspired by the fun loving spirit of “Lady” Eleanor Burns, Alex Anderson’s playful spirit and the amazing talent of Susan Brubaker-Knapp.

Dawn: My Grandmother. She taught me how to sew and at 88 she is still stichin’ She is always there for me.

What is currently on your wish list?
Kelly: An Embroidery Machine is at the very top of my list. I’ve been going through terrible withdrawal after my friend asked for her machine back.

Dawn: More time to sew for myself.

    What’s on your bedside table?
Kelly: Other than dust? A clock and typically a glass of water and a lamp. Pretty boring I know.

Dawn: My glasses, Kleenex and my charging i-phone.

What’s the last dream you remember?
Kelly: My dream last night was in an amazing restaurant. It was more of a stadium than a restaurant. Then two men pulled out guns and robbed everyone. I was the first to hand them my purse so I could get out of there. I was upset I didn’t get to finish my meal because it was delicious.

Dawn: I am a very active dreamer. Several each night and I remember almost every detail. None that would make sense to anyone else and always in COLOR!

    Flip-flops or tennis shoes?
Kelly: Tennis Shoes for sure…I can’t stand anything between my toes.

Dawn: Dr. Martens are not an option? Okay,  I conform–tennis shoes.

    When are your most creative?
Kelly: Late at night when the world is quiet and my defenses are the lowest.

Dawn: Hands down, it’s when I’m in the shower.

Where did you go on vacation as a child?
Kelly: I was raised by a single mother and I had three siblings so we did not travel much while I was growing up. A family friend loaned their cottage to our family a few times and we would go for a week. I loved to fish and swim and explore the fields with my brother.

Dawn: Camping and dirt bike riding at a family friend’s ranch.

How do you make a tough decision?
Kelly: Typically I gather way too much information then I sift and sort the information. Then I consult with someone who I feel is more knowledgeable than I about the subject. Next I think of the long term consequences of my decision and who it will affect. If it is a win/win…then I’m done and I go for the decision that will have the best long term consequences.

Dawn: Go with my heart and look to my inner circle for advice and support.

What smells remind you of home?
    Kelly: Lilacs

    Dawn: Deviled eggs

Name three things on your bucket list.
Kelly: 1. Going on an African Safari back country style. Not a tourist-type trip.  2. Making a needle turn Baltimore Album Bed Size Quilt.  3. Completing a triathlon.

Dawn: 1. Own a vintage trailer   2. Own a vintage vespa scooter (built for two even better)   3. “Pick” my way through the Longest Yardsale!

Read more about both Dawn and Kelly in the July issue of WebCents magazine.
